Matthew Silver, also known as the man in the white dress, is a New York based street and venue performer – he also edits wedding videos for a living. He’s originally from Bergenfield, New Jersey (USA) and at 33 years old, he’s making quite a name for himself in New York where he currently resides

“Vacuum cleaners to clean out your arm pits,” is just one of the bizarre and intriguing things to come out of his mouth during a performance.

He, like many other Eckhart Tolle influenced prodigies - I don’t know if he’s actually read anything by Tolle, but considering his hipster vibes, I’d say he’s probably heard of the name during a chi-tea chill out with some of his comrades – discuss the now. Living in the magical moment that isn’t a fictitious moment 5 years, 23 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds away: it’s now.

His performances are zealous and challenging and keeps the attention of passing by New Yorkers. He often performs wearing lime green swimming shorts and utilises a range of props (often children’s toys) that he finds around NYC. The reason? “It’s funny as hell, and old man with baby toys,” he says.

And he’s not lying. He looks like a cross between John Malkovich and Plato. Don’t be fooled by his childlike exuberant performances: he is a professional. He stays in character for the entire time he performs, and he has spent about 7 years mastering his skills.

“I believe that I’m a trickster. A trickster is somebody who’s trying to break up this idea between what’s real and what’s not real, and stay in the middle ground.”

He’s contradictory like all humans, “I’ve been doing the same thing so long that I’m making it up as I go.” Nevertheless, he strives for interaction with his audience, recreating the essence of all communication, thus emphasizing his main theory: creating a portal for imagination, creativity and love. He recently performed at Time Square with singer, songwriter Phœbe Nōvak, who performed topless.
